  Buxton
Festival is one of the UK’s largest arts festivals, held
every July with a star literature series, outstanding concerts
and an international programme of opera. They present rarely performed
operas that cannot be seen elsewhere and in recent years have
succeeded in providing the UK premières of some excellent
but unknown pieces. The incredible opera programme is complemented
by a highly respected and much envied Literary Series which takes
place every morning and is hosted by Roy Hattersley, in recent
years it has attracted the internationally renowned speakers;
Patrick Stewart, Michael Palin, Ian McEwan, William Hague and
P D James.

The Festival allows visitors
to see a wide range and vast number of performances in just
a few days including an acclaimed opera and literature programme,
a stunning range of concerts, an afternoon ballet, a cooking
demonstration, Buxton walks and workshops. With over 100 events
in just three weeks, it certainly offers plenty to see!This
Festival attracts over 36,000 people to the heart of the Peak
District, where they entertain audiences from all over the country
- a recent survey concluded they are successful in attracting
audiences from local, regional and national levels and now even
as far away as Australia! Over half of their audiences travel
at least 50 miles. The Festival generates over £3million
and 100 full-time jobs for the regional economy, and continues
to generate extensive regional and national media interest.
